From Machine Code to COBOL: Grace Hopper, Compiler Pioneer

In 1944 Grace Hopper helped in development of Mark I computer. In the early 1950s she created the first compiler. In the late 1950s she was responsible for the development of the COBOL programming language. By her participation in technological developments, she broke down gender barriers and became a role model for young women to enter the tech field. Ahe was a goodwill ambassador for the industry. One of her nicknames was "Amazing Grace." She is credited with the term "debugging the computer" when an insect flew into the Mark I and gummed up the works with its corpse. Many stories and legends exist about Grace Hopper, the Grand Dame of Coding.
