“Is that the lesson, pretty much? The reason I’m here?” I ask in gentle sincerity.
“You envy - desire! - Your moment, and it’s coming. I, we, want you to understand it may not be a moment you particularly enjoy.” That’s the catch in her eyes, in that smile. “It’ll be riding fire and death. From the sky, even.”
She pauses, and we both nod. I’d say It’s sobering, but I’m way far from that still. Instead, I say, “Yeah. Who’s ever heard of that? We all thought the thing in Operka was a fluke.”
“Nope. Prophecy.” She smiles, indicates a door I hadn’t noticed. “Now the real trip begins. Go brave the streets home on this stuff. Ha!”
And the room is a room. She’s still a knock-out, and the trip is very strong, but the magic has done its thing, and I feel awesome, but humbled and eager to leave. Never messed with big magic before, but I suspect they got more outta me than the other way around.

But the muted non-color does not, in any way, freak me out. Comfort without the stakes of losing it, which I think I could indulge in right now. I nod my appreciation but I doubt she sees it, and there are cars, and light beams come off of them in fantastic ways. I vaguely recall I live in the direction behind the one I’m facing. My body will not Shift, it has to turn, because it’s a body.
“Mister, you need a guide?” She asks, and it’s innocent, and good. “Lotta Folk come outta there, drunk-like.”
I grab a tree that isn’t there, because I don’t have the power to summon, duh. A guide sounds good.
“Drink,” I say. “I’ll buy.”
