By the latter years of the fourth millenium, much was known about the slowly shifting galaxies that surrounded the Milky Way, but the universe was endless, as far as anyone knew, and new opportunities for discovery, colonization and mineral wealth lay always upon the horizon. Such would be funded by both public and private governments, corporations and venture capitalists and they required people to undertake the daunting task of going far beyond the pale, beyond the call of resupply and aid, one such that was drawn beyond the borders of the holomaps was Martem Astor.

Astor had been born on a backwater mining asteroid colony that had been hollowed of useful mineral wealth long before he was born, only aimless derelicts and their families still remained, eking out a meager existence as supply hop depots as travelers went to and fro, to other destinations.

And so, here he was, 33 years later on a planet he named Astoria, for his mother.
