The transvaal lion (Panthera Leo melanochaita / krugeri) is a subspecies of the African Lion and has a unique white coat. It is the national animal of Burundi 🇧🇮 and is depicted on the coat of arms of Burundi. According to the 2008 IUCN Red List report the lion was still present in Burundi, but in the 2015 list the national animal was reported as extinct. Burundi is one of the four countries where the lion has no legal protection (apart from CITES).
Thank you to everyone for your wonderful art showcasing Burundi. Apologies for the delays. I have had two out of three job interviews this week, so I've not been around. I will do credits tomorrow and will start Cambodia after.
