The Day the Ocean Learned to Fly

At first, everyone thought the turquoise ceiling above the city was a storm.
Then the sunlight broke through it—scattering blue-green ripples across glass towers, streets, and rooftops—and the whole coastline looked up.
An ocean was drifting through the sky.
Sea turtles moved slowly over the avenues. Schools of silver fish flashed between clouds trapped beneath the waves. Above them, sailboats traveled upside down along the ocean’s underside, their sails full of a wind no one on the ground could feel.
Nothing fell.
Not a drop. Not a coral branch. Not even the waterfalls, which rose from the suspended sea and vanished upward into the clouds.
By sunset, the streets reflected two skies: one full of birds, and one full of whales.
And for the first time, the city understood that the horizon was not a boundary.
It was an invitation.
