In the Tobolsk monastery, the nuns were engaged in freshwater pearl fishing in the Tunguska River from mid-May to September, when the water was open. According to historical data, one nun could harvest approximately 150-200 grams of pearls per season.

To decorate one ceremonial vestment of a priest in the rank of archbishop, it usually required about 200-300 grams of freshwater pearls. Thus, one nun could harvest a sufficient amount of pearls to decorate one ceremonial vestment of a priest during one or two seasons.

Fishing for river pearls in the Podkamennaya Tunguska River by the yоung novices of the Tobolsk Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary wоmen's monastery is a tradition that dates back centuries. These novices, under the guidance of experienced sisters, wade into the crystal-clear waters of the river, skillfully searching for freshwater pearls formed by mussels that inhabit its depths🦪🦪🦪
