When the Mara Inquisition wiped out unauthorized mages across Talyra, one mage stole crystallized people from the borderlands of Caviel. He forged them in cold flames and infused them with arcane power stolen from the Tempest above until he'd created the animated suit of hollow, crystal armor to protect him from the Inquisitors. Together they fled into the Bloodbound Lands to continue his practice of magic. His creation turned on him however and slew him. When a squadron of Talyran soldiers stumbled upon their hideout, one of them donned the armor as the Crystal Champion only to be turned to crystal in it's embrace when facing down a Vampyre Lord who paralyzed the rest of his legion in fear. The armor was removed from him but nothing could bring him back.
