Dolly of Sutter's Fort

This small, 4-inch (10 cm) tall, handmade, wooden doll was the only personal possession eight-year-old Martha Jane "Patty" Reed was able to retain from her family's cross-country trek from Illinois to California over the winter of 1846-1847. Both Patty and her doll, whom she nicknamed "Dolly", were members of the ill-fated Donner Party.
