But then the old man's voice echoed here.

"Enter my abode,
You'll be my valued load.
I'll show you a magical play,

But if you disagree,
Into a picture, you will be,
And hang as I do, every day!"

Into the painting, I stepped,
So heroically adept,
As if every day, there I tread.

But then a gloved hand,
With an icy, steel band,
Gripped my neck, and the old man angrily said,

"You've entered my dwelling,
Now you're my eternal telling.
We are silent faces of a single play.

But my trick isn't this:
You'll now be a portrait in bliss,
And I will live in your house every day!"

Inherited from my past,
An old portrait, outcast.
No place for it here,
And of no use, I fear.

A sorrowful old man,
Depicted as best as one can.
Well then, until the morn,
Let it in my house be worn.

But as soon as night fell,
The painting began to swell.
I ran out: "What the hell is that?!"

From the portrait, he beckoned,
And cunningly, he reckoned.
In the morning, still a quiet, sad old head.

"Enter my abode,
You'll be my valued load.

But if you disagree,
Into a picture, you will be,
And hang as I do, every day!"
