The South Island giant moa/Dinornis robustus

The South Island giant moa (Dinornis robustus) was a massive, flightless bird native to New Zealand's South Island. Standing up to 3.6 meters tall and weighing up to 230 kilograms, it was one of the largest birds to ever live. These birds, members of the moa family, were characterized by their long necks, lack of wings, and powerful legs, making them well-suited for their terrestrial habitat. The South Island giant moa, along with other moa species, ultimately went extinct due to a combination of factors, primarily human hunting by the Māori people and habitat changes
