Our son's room went on fire a little bit once - a coal fell out of the fire on the carpet, he hadn't put the guard up when off somewhere - and the smoke alarm, between his room and me, did nothing. I smelled the smoke. Opened his door, burning wool.... put it out, smoke all over, smoke alarm, nada. cooked bacon for tea, BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP which was when I threw it out of the window. it gives a false sense of security.
