Thank you for your well thought-out comment! I do agree with most of it, while adding that it's just super competitive when you have 2500+ entries so I am certainly not expecting to do well every time. I had a similar theory to yours and might have submitted a "shopping mall art store" style entry to the next challenge, instead of an artistic Interpretation, just to see what happens.. π
Unfortunately true, but if it's any solace, I prefer the well thought out, creative, and detailed stuff. If it's thumb without enhancement I'm generally voting it lower cuz I like detailed, but it doesn't need to be hyperrealistic
I agree with that, it does really make a difference if it's enhanced or not, imo

I think this is a wonderful, powerful image.
Looking through the results for the Fast Car challenge - for example - only seven creations got 4 or above on average and to get into the top 10% was only 3.59. Looking at the top 20% for most of the challenges it seems people tend to vote fairly harshly and often higher for photorealism and/or feel good images over more challenging, out-there, or dare I say "artistic" interpretations.
Basically what I'm saying is this is hands down a 5 star creation to me, but getting higher results in a challenge might require going a more "shopping mall art store" approach. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that sort of thing.
