Wow, Charlie, when you mentioned sociable weavers, I thought you meant weaver birds who are sociable as many will build nests close to one another. But this weaver I've never heard of and I'm in awe over this. Thank you so much for  this! I'm very grateful that you did this! 🥰  **Thank you!** So, of course, off I went to read lots more - as you would expect from me 😁- and I found this short article explaining that they're ecosystem engineers and why. That photo is amazing.  I'd never seen or heard of cats using the nests as crows' nests (ship lookout basket high on the mast), but it really shouldn't be a surprise.  My guess is that they won't stay there long during the day, as it's likely to be very hot.

I was hoping to find a couple for you on a long and hot Google Streetview road-trip from Kimberley to Upington.  I've come up empty-handed so far, which is surprising.  There used to be a telephone line running along that road with almost every pole supporting a nest.   The line itself was replaced by microwave links decades ago, and the poles themselves have disappeared since I was last on that road a few years ago.  A medium-voltage electricity line is visible in places, but this will be kept free of nests to prevent short-circuits and fires.

The birds in the image are more orange than they are in real life.
