Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have painted Salai several times throughout their time together, though not all of these artworks have survived or been definitively attributed. One of the most famous depictions of Salai painted by Leonardo is the "John the Baptist", believed to have been painted between 1513 to 1516. Some art historians also speculate that Salai could have been the model for some other works by Leonardo, including the "Mona Lisa" and the "St. John the Baptist".
