Dr. Karl Ryker is not a candidate for "dad of the year." One of his children becomes a superheroine, the other a supervillain. His daughter will choose her psychologist, and Karl's best friend, as her "papa." His son will almost kill a planet but frame his mentor for the deed.
So, why keep this character around, creatively speaking? Karl is, in part, a precautionary character and a catalyst. He is not irredeemable and his relationship with his daughter will improve. It will never 100% recover.
Him becoming a teacher at his children's superhero academy will be an attempt to make amends.
