Al-Jazari (1136–1206) was a brilliant Muslim polymath, mechanical engineer, and artist from the Artuqid dynasty in what is now modern-day Turkey. He is best known for his monumental book “The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices” (Kitab fi Ma'rifat al-Hiyal al-Handasiya), completed in 1206, which documented over 100 mechanical devices, many of which he designed himself. These included water clocks, automata, and complex gear systems. Al-Jazari’s work blended practical engineering with extraordinary artistic detail, contributing to both the history of robotics and Islamic art. (OpenAI, 2025)
