As Julia rounded the next bend in the river, she saw Pipper floating in the shallow water near the shore. She sprinted to him and managed to pull him onto the shore. Pipper was unresponsive. Julia pressed her ear to his chest, listening for a heartbeat with her keen sense of hearing. She detected a faint pulse and began performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, a skill she thankfully possessed. After what felt like an eternity, Pipper coughed up a large amount of water and regained consciousness. "Sooo cold," he mumbled before collapsing back into his previous position.
