If you will write "русалка" in Google Translator, you will get "a mermaid". It's correct but with few "but". In fact, official translation into Russian of "a mermaid" is really "русалка", but in Slavic languages it has another meaning.
In Slavic mythology, there are lakes', swamps' and rivers' ghosts and spirits - rusalkas, servants of Vodyanoy (Lord of the Waters, like Leshy, but closer to a frog). They have a form of mesmerizing beautiful young n*ked ladies that allure travelers into the water and then eat them.
