That night Helena tossed and turned on her cot. The monastery was quiet save for the faint crackle of a branch in the cloister garden and the distant whisper of wind against ancient stone. Moonlight filtered dimly through the narrow window of her room.
Helena's brow glistened with sweat.
Then the dream came.
She found herself standing in front of Colonel Larkin's desk in his office. Morning light poured through the monastery windows, pale and cold. Tactical maps, weapons placements and patrol routes were spread across the desk before him, tiny markers denoting defensive positions around Eversham almost looked like grave markers.
Larkin looked up from his maps.
“Yes, Sister?”
Helena looked down at her uniform and stared at the floor. Her hands trembled at her sides. She shuffled her boots nervously on the stone floor.
She looked up at the Colonel.

“Sir, do you have a moment?”
“Of course,” he replied, his voice calm and concerned. “What’s on your mind?”
“Do you remember when I was upset the other day about my past life in the NID?”
Larkin nodded.
“There’s something that's been eating at me ever since I arrived at the SGC and met you.” Her voice softened to a whisper. “It concerns your brother, Patrick.”
Larkin’s expression shifted immediately.
“How do you know Patrick’s name? His service record isn't public knowledge. The SGC is a classified organization, you know.”
“I'm aware of that, sir. When I was with NID, a group of people tried to bring us in for something we stole. There was a firefight. All those trying to bring us in were killed by my team.”
“I see. Go on.”
“One of those trying to bring us in was a man named Patrick Larkin.”
She began to cry.
