John Perceval (John de Burgh Perceval; 1923-2000) was a self-taught painter and ceramic artist from Australia, known for his expressive and colourful works. Perceval holds a significant place in Australian art history, as a member of both the Angry Penguins and Antipodeans modern avante-garde artist groups. His paintings were “energetic and tactile” in technique “characterised by an exuberant use of colour and vigorous application of paint” which often took an intimate and personal view of the subject.
