Originally, Loki was a red wolf that Lord Gairon tried to turn into a human. There were, um, "side effects."
As the Blood Wolf, Loki had a burning hatred for humans. That faded after about a century. When he had gained enough experience with shapeshifting, he found that he can do more mischief disguised as a human than as something beastly.
He also rediscovered his sense of humor... Which isn't always a good thing. Poetically speaking: some people make excellent chew toys!
