Their cigar/nonsmoking status wasn't usually much of an issue. "I'm glad you don't mind them. So many nonsmokers do." / "It's a small nice thing that keeps you happy. It's like liking different music."
Yet as they spent more time together there would be unintentional arguing: "I don't need a cigar today." / "I don't want to deprive you." / "I'd give it up for you." / I wouldn't want to give it up for anything.
It reached its peak, sort of, the other day. "Maybe I should try one?" / "I wouldn't want to start you." / "It hasn't ruined you. Are you saying I couldn't use moderation?" / "What if you like it too much? No, no, I meant..."
They both knew they'd share a smoke soon. Two cigars in the inside breast pocket. When the moment was right and special. Not quite like the first time they kissed in public, but close enough.
