“You b----!” Larkin shouted, slamming his fists on the desk. “You killed my brother!”
Helena recoiled.
“You cold-blooded murderer! You NID people always wanted power! What did your superiors promise you? Promotion? Money? Intimacy? Power? Was Patrick just another obstacle to you?”
“I didn't want any of that,” Helena cried. “I thought I was serving my country! I was stupid and blinded by patriotism!”
“The Rogue NID is everything the Stargate Program stands against!” Larkin shouted. “Do you think you b------- could ever change?!”
“I did change!” Helena cried through the sobs. “I turned myself afterwards! I didn’t want that life anymore!”
Larkin looked at her with disgust.
“I trusted you.”
The words cut deeply than everything else.
Helena broke completely.
“I know,” she whispered. “And I’m sorry.”

Larkin turned away from her, breathing hard as he struggled to control himself.
Then his voice became cold.
“I’m sending you back to Earth immediately. I’ll let General Carter deal with you.”
“Sir... please…”
“You’re done here."
“What about the mission? The Lady? The villagers? What about Maerwynn?”
“We’ll manage without you.” He pointed toward the door. “Get out of my sight. Pack your things. Leave your gear behind. Dismissed.”
Helena stumbled from the office crying. Moments later—impossibly fast, dream-like—she found herself standing before the Stargate. Dark clouds churned overhead. The Gate shimmered silently in the clearing. Helena’s pack felt lighter. Too light. Larkin had told her to leave behind her tactical vest, her weapons, her uniform, her radio, even her SG badges.
