Motivations:

Driven by a deep sense of duty and a desire to protect her homeland, Dia is committed to excelling in her role within the Stargate Programme. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to the safety and advancement of humanity through her service.

Career: After completing her combat training, Dia returned to Sri Lanka and was assigned to the 10 Squadron SLAF, flying the IAI Kfir. Her exceptional skills and dedication led to an exchange program with the USAF 65th Aggressor Squadron, where she served from 2020 to 2022.

Stargate Programme:

In late 2022, Dia was selected by SGC scouts to join the prestigious Stargate Programme, becoming Sri Lanka’s first officer candidate pilot. She trained at the Alpha Site, mastering both the F302 fighters and AC402 dropships. One of her instructors during this advanced training was Wing Commander Catherine (Cate) Macgregor, a highly respected ace of the Stargate Program. Dia greatly admired Cate for her impressive record and was thrilled to be posted to the same ship, the UNS Invincible, even though Cate commanded SG4. By Spring 2023, Dia was posted to the UNS Invincible’s AC402 12th Squadron, 3rd Attack Wing.

Education and Training: Dia attended St Paul’s Girls School in Colombo, where she developed a passion for aviation. In 2015, she joined the Sri Lankan Air Force, having achieved excellent marks in her final exams. Her journey in the Air Force began with officer training at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra. Upon graduation, she underwent a series of rigorous training programs:

• Initial Pilot Training: No. 2 Flying Training School, RAAF Base Pearce, Australia.

• Advanced Pilot Training: No. 32 Squadron, RAAF Base East Sale, Australia.

• Combat Pilot Training: Hatzerim Air Base, Israel (2019).
