The Atlantic puffin is an official symbol of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. As you might guess, trying to mention two different dog breeds (the official dogs named ... yeah, you got it) lead to cartoonish crossbreeding. :)
Anyway, Nellie Lou's deal is that she's a tour boat guide and hostess, leading to visitors to all the worst fishing spots so the birds can keep the good ones to themselves. :)
