There was a reception in the village square. Tables were set up and Widow Palfrey and her friends made light refreshments and Messrs Kite and Henderson, the proprietors of the Black Labrador provided a cask of ale and wine each.
A line of villagers formed to meet the newcomers. Many shook hands with the team; A lot of women went up to Sister Helena asking for prayers.
