Captain Universe

Portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson

Rebecca Ferguson steps into the transcendent role of Captain Universe, the living embodiment of the Enigma Force. Where most heroes wield power, Ferguson’s Captain Universe is power incarnate — a cosmic guardian chosen not by destiny, but by necessity.

Her casting brings an elegance sharpened by grit: Ferguson projects both the grounded resilience of a survivor and the ethereal presence of a being touched by the infinite. When she wears the star-spangled sigil of the Uni-Power, she carries the weight of galaxies with calm authority, her very presence radiating the paradox of fragility and omnipotence.

This Captain Universe isn’t just a weapon — she’s a reluctant oracle, the voice of the cosmos itself, caught between mortal empathy and the cold duty of universal balance. Ferguson embodies the tension perfectly, bringing nuance to a character who could easily be reduced to spectacle.

I remember the beach we used to drive on with my dad, the feeling of isolation because not many people would go there (you needed to apply for a special annual pass to drive on this beach). While my dad fished in the ocean spray, I would adventure off in the sand dunes. I pretended to be a desert traveler looking for treasures, and they were there in the form of beautiful beach glass. Like me, this boy pretends he is an airplane as he rushes toward the sea. And I have some of the lyrics from B.o.B.'s "Airplanes" song in my head: "I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
