This is an edited and enhanced image created from a series of images I made for a five-word challenge. I imagined the ghost of a little girl, a former patient in an insane asylum, trapped in a torturous purgatory for eternity. The title comes from a quote by Dave Pelzer, who escape from his own living nightmare as a child of abusive parents: "Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul."
