“Helm, Hyperdrive status?” Soreth asked.
“Engineering reports hyperdrive is spooling up; currently at 55%,” replied Second Lieutenant Robert Leiter of the U.S. Air Force
“How much more time do they need?”
“Two to three minutes,” the helmsman replied.
“Sir, the lead Ha’tak is closing in on us. They’re powering up weapons,” announced Lieutenant Mokoena.
“Tactical, give me a firing solution on the double.”
“Aye sir,” replied the tactical officer, Sergeant Dusty Theile of the Australian Air Force. “Firing solution locked in. All railguns hot.”
“Helm evasive to port, engage sublight engines, let’s see if we can put some distance between us and that bogey.”
“Aye sir,” replied Leiter.
“Incoming fire!” cried Mokoena.

Two blasts came from the lead Ha’tak that grazed the Frasier’s shields. The ship rocked from the blast.
“Shields holding,” said Lieutenant Mokoena.
“Return fire, all aft railguns,” said Colonel Soreth. The aft railguns fired, grazing the Ha’tak’s shields.
“Direct hit,” announced Mokoena.
“Damage?” Colonel Soreth asked.
“Their shields are holding,” ops replied. “Engineering reports hyperdrive spooling at 85% and rising. They need a few seconds more.”
“Acknowledged,” Soreth replied.
Another volley of fire erupted from the Ha’tak. The crew felt a jolt.
“Shields at 70%,” ops said. “Railguns firing.” There was a pause. “Minimal damage to the Ha’tak’s shields. We’re not making much of a dent.”
“How much longer do we need?” Soreth asked as a blast rocked the Frasier. Sparks began to fly from consoles as they overloaded.
“We can go now!” Mokoena reported.
“Engage hyperdrive!” Soreth cried.
