The Pillars of the Earth X

And it is only with the making of the day, with the first livid light of dawn, that one fully realizes how immense, how imposing and, at the same time, how elegant slenderness is the gift of these buildings; it is with the first light of day that one turns to one's companion and whispers in a half-voice: "It's nice to live here, though, in the City of Cathedrals," and little does it matter if there are no other noteworthy buildings, little does it matter if there are no other places to admire: for what we have in front of us is enough and enough for a lifetime and perhaps more.
