Durthang is a fortress in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, located in the northwestern part of Mordor. Originally built by Gondor after the defeat of Sauron, it was intended as a watchtower to guard the land. However, it was eventually abandoned and fell into Sauron's hands. Situated high in the Ephel Dúath (Mountains of Shadow), Durthang overlooks the barren plateau of Gorgoroth. By the time of the War of the Ring, it serves as a stronghold for Sauron’s orcs, contributing to Mordor’s oppressive defenses.
