Abd Yaghuth al-Harithy was an Arab warrior and poet from the Arab pre-Islamic era, belonging to the tribe of Banu al-Harith ibn Ka'b in southern Arabia. He was known for his bravery in battle and became especially famous for the poem he composed while held captive, awaiting execution after being captured in a tribal war. When he realized that death was certain, he recited verses mourning himself, expressing regret, longing, and pride in his lineage — one of the most sincere examples of self-elegy in early Arabic poetry.

Among the strongest verses of his poem:

“Do not blame me — enough of blame has fallen upon me;
there is no good for you in blaming me, nor for me.”

“An old woman of ‘Absham laughs at me,
as though she had never seen a Yemeni captive before me.”

His poem remains a testament to the courage and composure of the pre-Islamic Arab warrior in the face of fate, preserving his name in the legacy of classical Arabic poetry.
