Its skin was impervious to almost all forms of damage, a protective barrier as strong as the hardest metals. Its senses were so acute that even the faintest movement or sound was enough to set it on the trail of its prey. It could stalk through pure darkness, its eyes able to see beyond the limits of normal vision, pinpointing its target even when it was cloaked in shadow. The first kill was almost a whisper—a shadow in the corner of the camp. But its true target was Anika. The same assassin who had once been an unstoppable force, enhanced by the Quasi-Crystal. She had been the symbol of their superiority. But now, she would be nothing more than another prey for the creature’s insatiable hunger. The wars she had fought, the enemies she had slain, none of them had prepared her for what was about to come. And any who dared to wield the Quasi-Crystal again would soon meet the same fate.
