Out of the storm, a shadow swept across her. Paprika looked up. It was a colossal eagle-like bird diving rapidly toward her. The creature's claws swiftly grasped Paprika's cloak & lifted her from the terminal velocity fall.

Paprika gasped audibly, her wide eyes locking with the bird. The creature’s eyes felt somehow protective. This calmed Paprika. It reminded her of how her father would look at her.

Paprika was uncertain what would come next, but she felt at ease knowing she'd not meet the jagged rocks waiting at the bottom of the cliff.
