The most famous of them all was probably Jack. the airedale terrier. During WW I his battalion got completely cut off by enemy fire. They desperately needed help, but no soldier would get through alive. Their only hope was Jack, and they send him to HQ with a message. He got very badly hurt on his way, but kept going and managed to deliver the message. Sadly his injuries were so bad, he died a bit later. The full battalion was saved thanks to him.
