Douce and Linn had been travelling since before the break of dawn. Their feet hurt, they began to feel hungry and the worst part of their mission was yet to come.
Why did it have to be trolls, Douce wondered half aloud. She was always ready for a hearty tavern brawl or some knocking about of unassuming bandits who miscalculated their non-existent chances of landing a score with their pouches. Even the occasional bear or mountain lion that crossed paths with her on the wrong day were nothing to boast over after a long day of adventuring.
But a troll? Really?
She wondered why she and that smug and loud-mouthed ranger had been instructed to provoke the beast and lure it out of its lair. After all, being chased by an enraged troll would prove rather dangerous.
