“And if you can’t get figure it out, you can ride on my back,” said Fairbairn.

“I’ll give it another try,” Helena said. She twisted the gas and was a little smoother, but the ATV still lurched forward. 

“I think I will need more time with the ATV,” Helena said humbly.

“Hop on,” said Fairbairn. Helena got on to Fairbairn’s ATV and they were away. Twenty minutes later they arrived at the Stargate. Larkin dialed Earth and input his IDC as soon as the Stargate kawooshed.

“Stargate Command, this is SG-24. Please respond. Stargate Command this is SG-24, come in.”

“Carter here. Go ahead, Colonel,” General Carter said.


“We’ve got a bit to report. We’ve been exploring the cave and we’ve found what we believe is an Ancient frigate,” Larkin said.

“Oh my!” Carter exclaimed. “What’s her status?”

Larkin knew he couldn’t pronounce the ship’s original name. So, he came up with a name that was appropriate. “The *Langford* is structurally sound and has a full complement of 89 or so drones. However, she’s got engine problems and so far we can’t get the hangar door open.”

“The *Langford*?” Carter asked.

“That’s what we’re calling her as the original name is difficult to pronounce. Besides, I felt it was appropriate. She believed in all of this before it was a reality.”

“Indeed,” said Carter, who beamed with pride.

“Langford? Who was she?” Helena asked.


“Catherine Langford was the woman who started the Stargate Program, Sister,” Larkin explained. Her father found the Earth Gate at Giza in 1928 and she later took over his work when he passed away. She recruited many people to the Program, including General Carter and Doctor Jackson.” Helena nodded.

“Do you need me to send Flynn to assist you? She’s adept at Ancient tech,” General Carter asked.

“Not yet. I’ve decided that top priority will be getting the hangar open. We can use the Langford as a drone weapons platform.”

“I see. Do what needs to be done.”


SG-24 returned to the monastery to change and grab the ATV’s. Helena got on the ATV. She had never ridden one before and was perplexed.

“Have you ever ridden before?” Bjornson asked.

“I have not. About the only thing I have done was ride on the back of my ex-boyfriend’s motorcycle, and that was a very long time ago,” Helena replied.

“It’s simple. Your gas pedal is on the right handlebar. Use the handbrakes to slow down,” said Larkin. “Give a try here. Just give it a little gas, but not too much.” 

“Alright, Here goes!” Helena twisted the gas slowly and the ATV lurched forward, startling the Carmelite.

“Woah! Hot Mustard!” Helena exclaimed.
