The reality was she hadn't really "got to close," that was just her story. Instead she had walked over the the pool stairs, looking to see if anyone was watching. She stepped down onto the top step, letting the hems of her jeans get wet as she walked along, then stepping down another step. The water now came part way to her knees as she paused and thought about if she should take another step. She waded a bit more then stepped down again, the water reaching above her knees and filling her boots. She took another step down,  the water now reaching the pockets of her jeans, and she paused again, checking for her phone. She knew at this point there was no chance she wasn't going swimming. No swimsuit, no problem, she thought, she'd rather wear her clothes anyway. She dove in swimming to the edge where she held on, enjoying every moment of being in the water. Finally she climbed out and sat on the edge, just in time for the rest of her friends to appear, ready to head out for the evening.
