“Author: Nobody.”

In most countries, the law is clear: AI-generated art created from simple prompts cannot be protected by copyright. To qualify, copyright requires a meaningful human contribution. The issue of authorship, however, is complex. Should the author be considered the person who writes the prompt, the company that develops the AI, the AI itself in some hypothetical future, or the many artists whose works were used to train the model—usually without compensation? For now, the law avoids this dilemma by stating there is no author. It is, legally speaking, the simplest solution.
