Jaguars are apex predators that prefer dense, undisturbed forests and areas near water, such as rivers and swamps. They are now extinct in El Salvador and Uruguay, and have lost about half of their historic range. The Amazon is the largest stronghold for jaguars, with about 50% of the population in Brazil alone.
Beautiful!
Some positive news--Miní, a wild-born female jaguar from the Iberá Wetlands, was relocated and released earlier this year into the Gran Chaco forest to help revive a dwindling population of jaguars in Argentina. Go Miní!
