Hedwig is actually still alive. She tricked another owl who used to bully her at the pet shop into drinking Polyjuice Potion and going with Harry during the Battle of the Seven Potters, and she made a run for it. She relocated to a small Bavarian village, where she was accidentally transfigured into a human woman. She decided to roll with it, fell in love, and had a son. Unfortunately, some of her animal instincts remained, meaning that she didn’t teach her son things like eating in moderation. As a result, he became morbidly obese, and somewhat of a local celebrity. The family enjoyed the attention—especially when the 13-year-old boy found a golden ticket in one of his favorite chocolate bars.

(Yeah, I know this is a deep cut, but canonically, Augustus Gloop’s mother’s name is Hedwig.)
