In the Cosmopolitan Cosmos in 2851, contact with alien species has rarely gone well. However, in this particular instance, when human colonists arrived in orbit of planet Gunsthrop in orbit of the star Gliese 581 g in the Libra constellation, they were politely asked to wait while language translation matrices could be compiled and then were asked if anyone in the convoy played tennis.
It turns out that the S'dari of Gunsthrop decide everything based upon the outcomes of tennis matches and a match would be required to determine if humanity should be permitted upon their planet. An ex professional did happen to be available, won 1 of 3 matches and they were permitted to settle on the planet.
Since then intergalactic tennis has become all the rage and Amonine Fifty-Five, the pride of Gunsthrop, is reigning champion.
