Milan's network of canals, called "The Navigli," was built (and expanded to Leonardo da Vinci's design) to bring in the marble blocks that were needed for the construction of the Duomo [], the marvelous Gothic cathedral that is the symbol of the city.
Milano is the most modern city of Italy, as well as one of the most beautiful and richest in art and monuments -- among which one cannot fail to mention The Last Supper, which can be seen by the public at the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
