Miriam Schapiro (Mimi; 1923 – 2015) was a Canadian artist, who moved to the USA as an adult. She was a pioneer of the Feminism Art movement in the 1970s. Schapiro’s work challenged the distinctions between fine and decorative art, often incorporating fabric, embroidery, and patchwork into her "femmages" to highlight traditionally feminine crafts. Her work was instrumental in the recognition of women's historical contributions to art and culture, employing mixed media to explore identity, gender, and the personal as political. She was married to the Abstract Expressionism painter Paul Brach.
This image shows a cute cat sitting on a pillow, surrounded by flowers and tiny heart lights. It is reminiscent of feminist art, incorporating decorative and collage elements.
