Land celebrates the December 1948 launch of his revolutionary new device with his three brothers (founder members of the secret ‘Big Top Hat and Ostrich Feather Society), on the roof of the Polaroid tower in New York. As per tradition, his younger brother, who Mr Land dismissed when he sold their patented design for ‘giant helium hotdog sausages’ to reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes, is pictured (right) stripped of his ceremonial ostrich feather.
