The first recorded stagecoach robbery in California was in 1856, and the last was in 1913. During that time, there were 457 stagecoach robberies, many of which had unique characteristics.

The Yellowstone Stagecoach Robbery on August 24, 1908 is considered the biggest stagecoach robbery of the 20th century. A single robber held up 17 coaches with 174 passengers, and reportedly got away with $2,094.20 in cash and jewelry.
