Quite some time ago, I ran across a fantasy novel I could borrow on Amazon via their Kindle Unlimited program. The actual writing was so-so, but the basic concept, as introduced in the first chapter, amused me. The idea was that a young man from the modern world had already, as we first met him, been magically transported to a typical Medieval Fantasy realm, and had needed to find a way to earn an honest living. Many protagonists, in his shoes, would have "invented" the printing press, or gunpower, or the steam engine, or something along those lines. But this young man realized there was one thing he was well-qualified to do in order to help the local culture become more civilized, and that was obvious: To "invent" the concept of a pizza restaurant! (Implication was that this culture already had bread, cheese, beef, spices, tomatoes, etc., but no one had ever combined it all in the form of a pizza.) It was good to know that this young man had his priorities straight! 😉
