Schrat (Wild Forest Spirit)
The Schrat is a wilder, more chaotic figure. These spirits can be tricksters, leading travelers astray or frightening them. However, they also act as guardians of the forest, punishing those who harm it. In some stories, they are tied to individual trees—harming the tree harms the Schrat.
It blends seamlessly into its surroundings, making it nearly impossible to distinguish from the forest itself.
While not inherently malevolent, it can be hostile to those who harm the woods, such as woodcutters, hunters, or travelers who stray off the path. Its actions range from harmless mischief—leading wanderers in circles or hiding their belongings—to outright aggression, causing accidents or even attacking trespassers.
However, the Schrat can also be a guide or ally to those who respect the forest. In some tales, it aids lost travelers, provides warnings of danger, or shares knowledge about the woods and their secrets.
