A chamber that watches the dark breathe

A sealed chamber resting on the deep seafloor, its screen reading a rising line of oxygen. This is how dark oxygen got caught: instruments lowered four kilometres down to measure what the abyss exhales — and finding more oxygen near the metallic nodule fields than the darkness should be able to make. If the nodules are splitting seawater like tiny batteries, then part of the air story of this planet runs in a place the sun has never touched.

Slide two of my Instagram carousel on the discovery. The instruments go down there so the rest of us can wonder accurately.
