The air thickened with a sparkling blue mist, a sickly yellow nimbus within, and out strode an apparition of darkness incarnate, Belzaor. Lis gasped to see the dark god with her waking eyes and took a step back. The dread spirit walked through the remains of Geis Gaulon, which whorled into a dust devil.
"You've vanquished my champion, I commend you, wizard's apprentice." She smiled slyly, as if making a joke Lis couldn't understand. "The power you could possess at my side is immeasurable, if you'll only invite me in. We can make this world whatever you'd wish it to be."
Lis turned and walked away. Belzaor called after her calmly. "I could bring you to your mother. Bring your grandmother back to you."
Lis stopped and stood silently. She spoke softly, without turning her head. "There are no Emerald Bastions of Zem. Gone is forever."
The sounds of battle had ceased. She walked out of the cauldron chamber and in search of her companions.
